DETOX 2012 DAY 1!
NB. I have put a very useful 'Shopping List' in the PRESS section of this website so that you can print it out 'double sided' and put in your bag as a continuous 'can have/can't have list'
Ok, I sneakily started a day earlier so that I can blog 'real time' detox tips for the whole day first thing in the morning.
Also, I would like to put in a caveat that I'm not particularly adventurous in the kitchen and on quite a few occasions will make things up and then decide never to make it again - or sometimes, to put it down as a Detox staple as it is delicious. Also, I don't tend to do 'amounts' as I make what I make and then carry on eating it for lunch etc the next day until it is finished - so you may need to decide your own amounts. AND FINALLY - I don't like being hungry, so I eat a lot!
Breakfast - taken at my desk after a half hour session at the Gym (I go to Movers and Shapers - www.moversandshapers.net, which is a power plate class and I try for the 8am or 8.30am class so that it is done and dusted before my day starts)...I had my lemon and hot water whilst getting up - slowly!
Was......Oatcakes with Goats cheese - 4 Oatcakes and half a mini goats cheese 'rondelle' from Tesco's and a pear
Lunch - again, at my desk was Vegetable curry leftover from the night before (made, knowing I was starting my detox for real the next day) I chopped courgettes, onions, celery, cabbage, sweet potatoes and carrots up into similar sized pieces, fried the onion in a dessertspoon of oil and then added a dessert spoon of curry powder, then I cucked the rest of the vegetables in with about 300ml of water with a stock cube (vegetarian, no salt) and left to simmer for about 30 minutes. When all veg were soft, I blitzed the contents with a hand blender for just a few seconds to make the sauce a bit thicker but keeping most of the vegetables in chunks. I suppose it was a 'Chunky Soup' texture by the time I came to pouring it into a warmed bowl and tucked in.
Supper was short grain brown rice mixed with onions, yellow pepper and edamame beans with a salmon steak - 3 for £10 from M&S which will see myself and my partner eating salmon for the next 3 evening meals! I seasoned with black pepper and chopped up some coriander and mixed into the rice and then just before serving I squeezed half a lemon into the rice - deeelish!
Day One I tend to snack a lot, especially as I am 'coming off' the indulgences of Christmas and as I don't like waste I had eaten EVERYTHING in the house including the chocolates that seemed to be in abundance thius year - I made Kevin eat the Mince Pies though, that would have been a push too far!
Throughout the day I had my favourite peppermint tea www.summerdownmint.com and will also be trying their cammomile and peppermint, so if you buy online, make sure you get a box of both, I think they are doing an offer this month anyway.
That's all for today
Your comments...'Detox rice pudding' my staple breakfast. Short grain brown rice with sheeps yoghurt, a bit of honey and a sprinkle of cinammon. It is lovey and I make a batch on sunday night and bring it to work ( I walk to work) and eat it once I am there. Great with fruit.
So exciting to be doing this with you! :) Really hope that you will blog everyday, it will be helpful to see what you do. I am flicking through my copy (very worn and torn over the years) and was wondering when was the last time you re-wrote Detox Yourself? Looking through your past blogs I am pretty sure the food list has changed - my copy says no tomatoes and no avocado for instance - would be great to know what the last re-write was :)
