Skin Tips
Exfoliate! Exfoliate! Exfoliate!
Get the most out of your skincare. Make sure you exfoliate regularly to get the best levels of absorption from your skin oils and moisturisers - if it has to fight through layers of dull, dead skin cells to get to your body it will be exhausted by the time it arrives and won't do the best job, wasted product and wasted effort...
Holland and Barrett offers
Holland and Barrett are doing their buy one, get one half price thing and whilst I don't really take vitamins, I'm loving their flaxseed and pumpkin seed products with Goji berries and sunflower seeds mixed in - there's even one mixed with cocoa for the chocolate lovers. So sprinkle some on your porridge in the morning nand stay full til lunch time - in a healthy way....
NEW VEG
Over the weekend, find a vegetable or fruit that you have NEVER had before - then try to find a Detox recipe for it....variety is the spice of DETOX LIFE!

DAY 2...

OK, Day 2 and we have questions and suggestions...

The 'posts' can be found if you click on Day 1 in the list at the right hand side of this page.....and then scroll down to the 'comments bit'

There is a fab recipe for Rice pudding the detox way posted by Rachel - so tuck in to that and then Wendy wants to know when was the last update - well, if my memory serves correctly it was about 6 years ago and I have learned much since I did the first book. Tomatoes are in favour but not for the first 7 days and avocados are still not in as they are the sort of thing that if I allow them, you will eat loads and then complain of no weight loss!

I have put the 'shopping list' in the press section of this site for you to print out - make sure you read the last bit as this stipulates when stuff can be introduced.

So, Day 2. I am sticking to my habit of a detox lifetime, cheese and oatcakes - was up against it as I had a meeting to get to, so again it was at my desk. Boring I know, but it means when I buy a box of oatcakes and a lump of goats cheese, it lasts the week.

Lunch, vegetable and lentil soup with 2 tablespoons of brown rice to bulk it up...lentils don't cause me a problem...

Supper - scrummy! Stir fry veg, courgettes, red onions, Pak Choi and celery with 2 cloves of garlic crushed - would have added ginger but didn't remember to buy any, Roast sweet potatoes with cracked black pepper and then a piece of salmon - from the 3 for 10 M&S that I bought this week.

Snacks, 7 walnuts - read an article in The Mail that says they are better for me than my beloved almonds, so I'm seeing if they make me feel super human (?!) and anyway, if it's in The Mail it HAS to be true! Loads of peppermint tea and of course the ubiquitous honey and lemon in the morning. Missing caffeine all day....

NOW, we have a weekend coming up and there will be challenges ahead - my schedule has me meeting friends for breakfast, then driving to Gloucester to see friends house that they did up and then pub lunch and then proposed takeaway on the drive home.... All V Non DETOX! So, I am going for Smoked salmon and grilled mushrooms with green tea for breakfast - I KNOW mushrooms are not until day 7 but I also know that if I only have the salmon I will be very hungry so I'm 'off piste' but still healthy - and anyway, everyone else will be on bacon sandwiches - cruel....

Lunch should be fine, pubs always have some sort of fish and I will go for side salad and then sparkling water with fresh lime in it....

Takeaway, and I don't know who wants what, so I will urge Indian...there is almost always a prawn and tomato and onion dish - think its called Jingy al Jawaba?! with a side of tarka Dall - lentils and garlic and I will ask for it to be done with oil and not ghee - again, I know that tomatoes are not supposed to be until day 7 but I'd rather you 'cheat' this way that decide 'what the heck, I'm on full naan with lamb samosas'!!

Sunday will see normality resumed - Goats yogurt with honey and pears for breakfast and then stir fry brown rice for lunch and I think some sort of fish for supper with a huge salad......

ALSO, Sunday is exfoliation day in the Scrivner household, I make sure I do some sort of full body scrub - yes, as well as the dry skin brushing and then also a facial scrub - I know a FABULOUS BRAND - JANE SCRIVNER Facial Grinds - pure quartz crystal for skin smoothing and sparkling.......happy detox!

When having takeaways I always try to eat off menu if possible. Indian- I usually ask for prawn saag- Prawns with spinach & spices in oil, and bombay potatoes- all detox friendly, but make sure no ghee. Chinese- Prawns in garlic, ginger, chilli, onion with stir fry veg- make sure there is no added msg! Fish and Chips- I take the batter off the fish and throw away and a few chips. Chips dipped in hummus is really good. Make sure you don't have salt or vinegar. Most places are accomodating as long as you don't ask for anything too unreasonable!
